Dentistry for KIDDS’s FAQ

Frequently asked questions on optimal pediatric dental care.

Pediatric dentists undergo two to three years of specialized training after dental school, focusing on child psychology, behavior, growth, and development.

Ensure your child’s comfort during teething by:

  • Offering a clean, cool teething ring or cold washcloth for gentle chewing.
  • Massaging their gums with a clean finger.
  • Providing soft, chilled foods like yogurt or applesauce.
  • Consult with your pediatric dentist before using teething gels or tablets.

Our pediatric dental office ensures the safety of children during X-rays by using modern digital technology with minimal radiation. We employ lead aprons and shields for additional protection and prioritize early detection and prevention.

Your insurance plan determines your child’s dental visit coverage. While many plans cover pediatric dental care, coverage varies. Contact your insurance provider for benefits, limitations, and potential out-of-pocket expenses.

Clean infants’ gums with a damp cloth after feedings. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush designed for infants when their first teeth appear around six months. Wait until age two to introduce fluoride toothpaste, ensuring your child can spit it out. Brush their teeth gently yet thoroughly, particularly before bedtime.

Promote cavity prevention for your child by:

  1. Limiting sugary snacks and drinks, especially between meals.
  2. Encouraging a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  3. Establishing regular brushing and flossing habits.
  4. Scheduling routine dental check-ups and cleanings.
  5. Consider dental sealants for molars to prevent decay.

Safeguard your child’s teeth in sports:

  • Use a well-fitted mouthguard during activities.
  • Opt for a custom-made one from your pediatric dentist.
  • Educate your child on the consistent use of a mouthguard.

Thumb-sucking is common in young children, but if it continues after age five or affects dental development, consult your pediatric dentist for guidance on breaking the habit and monitoring oral health.
